It had branches in Abbeville, Camden, Columbia, and Georgetown. The bank operated as the State's sole fiscal agent during the Civil War, meaning there were no state notes issued.When the war began, banks were cut off from their northern suppliers. Previously printed notes that were sitting in inventory were dusted off to be issued. This note was likely printed in the 30's or 40's.At the center is a Vignette of the old South Carolina State House between denomination blocks. The South Carolina State Seals sit at the bottom between signature lines.This note grades Very Fine with 2 hammer-cut cancellations and a few pinholes.
