Head and tail of spine lacking, binding exposed. Painted deco dulled, but still attractive. Binding fragile between pages 126 - 127, cording exposed. Front and rear gutters beginning to split with some exposed binding mesh. Normal age-related toning throughout text-block, with some instances of age-staining. Binding is intact, hinges fragile. Please see photos. Elisabeth Bürstenbinder (pen-name Ernst Werner; 1838-1918) was a German writer who first gained attention in 1870 with Hermann. Among her works Sacred Vows, Fickle Fortune, River Bond, and some others, had English translations. Vineta was originally published in Leipzig, Germany, in 1877, so this is a very early translation.
