Description: This colorful Tobacco card (also referred to as a Cigarette Card ) was issued by the DUKE TOBACCO co. of Durham North Carolina as an insert premium in their brands of Duke’s Tobacco and Cigarettes during 1888. This card is from a scarce series of 50 cards entitled, “ VEHICLES OF THE WORLD ” and is listed as series N90 in Burdick’s American Card catalogue. This series was also issued by the GOODWIN Tobacco Company, with their advertising on the back in place of the Duke Brands. The front of the card features an image of a period vehicle of transportation in use in different areas of the world. The back of the card gives a brief description of the vehicle as well as advertising for Dukes Cigarettes. This card features the PALANQUIN. The Card measures 1 ½ inches by 2 3/4 inches approximately. The card does have some corner and edge wear, as well as discoloration to the back. I have scanned the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself. Don't miss out on this OVER 135 years old piece ( a true American antique.
