Description: From my airship collection I offer this original large at about 2 inches bronze medal minted 1909 after the tragic loss of the airship LZ4 at Echterdingen in 1908 during a test flight. The medal honors GRAF ZEPPELIN and the crew who commanded the flight. He was also the inventor of the steerable airship. The obverse has his familiar likeness with his name around and date of birth in the field. The reverse has legend in a wreath translated to "THROUGH COURAGE AND PERSEVERANCE TO THEM or THROUGH COURAGE AND PERSEVERANCE TO VICTORY." Medal is in uncirculated condition. See the scans.
