This is the 1971 one pound banknote issued by the Provincial Bank of Ireland Limited on 1st January 1971. The note is green on multicolored underprint with the image of a shirt haired young Irish boy to the right of the front and the Allied Irish Banks logo in the top left corner. The back has the same color scheme as the front and shows the image of an oared fighting ship with sails. The front of the note shows the denomination, one signature, the date, and the serial number. The back only shows the denomination. This particular note has the serial number PN138014 displayed twice in black on the front. The banknote has a watermark which displays the Allied Irish Banks logo. The note also has a raised vertical line in the paper left of the young boy's image, which we believe is original to the making of the note and not an artifact of circulation (we believe the note was never circulated). Condition: I would grade this banknote as crisp uncirculated with all the details being very well preserved. The note has no folds and retains all of its original stiffness, crispiness and sheen. It is clean with no observable soiling and no staining. It has no pinholes and no graffiti. The edges are intact and show no roughness. The note has no tears or splits. The corners are squared, intact with no creasing or folding and no rounding. The colors are fresh and vivid with no fading. The note has a raised vertical line in the paper left of the young boy's image, which we believe is original to the making of the note and not an artifact of circulation (we believe the note was never circulated). According to the Banknote Book, the note should have a dashed security thread which we are unable to see, so possibly it resides in the raised line mentioned here.
