Description: Beautiful GAZO Clock Company grandfather clock "San Diegan" model hand carved Alder wood in Walnut finish. The San Diegan model was an elegant hand carved Austrian inspired open well style grandfather clock. The clock is eight day weight driven playing Shubert's "Ave Maria" or Westminster chime every 15 minutes. The movements were supplied by Jauch in Germany for Gazo and is unusual with 11 hammers for the Ave Maria melody and 4 hammers for the hour strike. The Gazo clock company (1973-89) was a family business operating in San Diego and became known for their unique, highly carved cases and quality. This model with 9 inch engraved brass dial with applied porcelain Roman numeral, engraved Brass weights and cast brass pendulum. The case also features brass piano hinges, patterned textured glass on sides, dovetail construction and hand carved Alder wood case. The cases were provided by Beto Martinez. These were carved by skilled artisans in Mexico and finished in the US(San Diego). Gazo clocks were marketed in Dallas, La Jolla, Carmel, San Francisco, etc. This clock is from my private collection is #215 an early Gazo clock and was originally purchased in Dallas. I have never cleaned it. The clock has been running perfectly since I purchased it about 8 years ago from the original owner. The clock measures 82 inches in height, 24 inches in width and is 14.5 in depth. Beautiful example and a great price.
