Description: A Very Rare Large Olivewood Mezuzah Case Made in Jerusalem Circa 1890. Olive wood can be found in many areas of the world today but it is native to the Mediterranean region and considered to be of a higher standard of wood for various reasons. Many Judaic pieces made in Israel from the 1890s until today are made from this type of wood native to the region. This Mezuzah case is one of those examples; made by hand in the 1890's carved from olivewood it is a wonderful example of early Judaica from Jerusalem. Made in a long rectangular fashion with rounded topsides the carved impressed designs on the front and sides of the case are simple yet elegant. A small window backed by glass is pierced at the top center in the front casing and the word Jerusalem is spelled in the old-fashioned way below. On reverse a sliding wooden panel smoothly slides into the back of the casing securing the scroll within. Height 23.6cm width 3.5cm depth 2.5cm
