Description: WELCOME TO MY LISTING! This was a custom piece of art created by Lois Maillou Jones, a celebrated African-American artist for Absolut Vodka’s Pride advertising campaign, designed to celebrate black art in many forms in conjunction with the Swedish vodka. Historic Absolut campaign photographer Anthony Barboza, who was responsible for capturing many of the classic and iconic Absolut images used in the famous ad series, photographed the one of a kind art creation, which was painted by the artist in 1991, in order to create the ad. Pieces like this helped the brand grow to new heights in the 90’s and 2000’s, when it was distributed by the House of Seagram / Seagram Americas. This original piece features colorful African masks and sculptures, along with the artist’s interpretation of the famous bottle. It is inspired by one of her famous pieces of art, Les Fétiches, which she created in 1938 and is displayed in the National Museum of Art in the Smithsonian. Dimensions: approximately 19.5” wide by 26” long. This poster format was not readily available to collectors. Created by the Absolut Company, this piece was never available to consumers for sale. Since it was created by Absolut and not a third party, the image quality is excellent and crisp and is a similar to having a magazine print ad blown up on your wall, times 100. Image on one side only. On heavyweight, coated paper with a high gloss sheen, the poster has crisp corners and no folds in the poster field. It was stored rolled, and will be shipped in a tube. In great condition, with the normal wear and tear you’d expect for a 29 year piece of ephemera. The colors of these posters are exceptionally vibrant. Lois Mailou Jones (1905-1998) had a prolific seven decade career as a teacher and influential artist. She gained acclaim for her art while living as a black expatriate in Paris during the 1930s and 1940s. Jones introduced African tribal art, a motif enormously popular in Parisian galleries, into her canvases. She was profoundly impacted by Paris, exhilarated by a country where her race seemed irrelevant. These poster prints were used as display pieces in liquor stores in 1995, but are now a perfect piece of artwork to frame and display in your home, whether above your mantle, man cave, she-shed, office, or home bar. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own this rare piece of history. Not a lot of these pieces of ephemera survived, but I have them. Sold as-is. * Due to variations of color settings and the quality of phone, tablet or computer screens the actual item color may vary from the images shown.
