Description: 1887 Volunteer Americas Cup History Centerboard Sloop Melbourne Smith Lithograph Edward Burgess Designer Offered for auction is a beautiful 13" x 14" Melbourne Smith lithograph of the Volunteer, the Centerboard Sloop and 1887 defender of America's Cup. Melbourne Smith, a world renown " Naval Architect " and " Shipbuilder " masterfully portrayed the Americas Cup yacht in gouache and watercolor. Under his brush, a profile of hull and sails becomes almost three dimensional, showing much of the vessel's hull form. His painting is reproduced in its original size by lithography on fine paper with particular care to assure true reproduction of color. Volunteer was the seventh defender of the America's Cup in 1886, sailing against Thistle. Included with the lithograph is a narrative description of both the defender and challenger and of the courses over which they sailed in the America's Cup. Lithograph print will be packaged and shipped in a heavy-duty artwork / poster mailing tube for safe mailing. This Melbourne Smith nautical print would look beautiful in your home or office.
