Description: I am so pleased to have this beauty! Antique Late-1800s Vesta Case, Match Safe. Beautiful with a raised Roman Goddess of Fire on one side (Vesta, herself) and a regal Hound/Spaniel Hunting Dog on the other. This is a box-shaped Vesta case. The serrated edge striker is on the bottom, and the wear and traces of patina are due to age and good use. Opens and closes with ease. I believe the metal is brass and/or copper.I always thought that Vesta boxes/cases were to keep matches dry, but the other purpose of the case is to also prevent them from igniting!A very rare antique metal piece of art with history. Zoom in closely at the images.
