Description: 13.5 cm high 18 cm long The hole for vent on the lid the part next to the vent hole is unglazed from when it was made l No chips or cracks Please see pictures for condition If you would like any more pictures please send me a message Chinese Export Porcelain Batavia Ware Covered Teapot, late 18th century, with paneled floral decoration on a brown field The teapot is decorated to both sides with leaf-shaped panels enclosing iron red and black-enamelled flowers, with a further panel below the spout enclosing persimmons. the domed cover is similarly decorated and is surmounted by a floral bud finial Batavia Brown: A decorative style within Chinese export porcelain using a surface covering brown glaze with or without panels in conjunction with underglaze blue or enamels. The wares appears to have been named after the city of Jakarta which at that time was the Dutch East India Company trading center in South East Asia, or Batavia. The decoration also seems to have been particularly popular with the Dutch. Export wares with this decoration were common throughout the first half of the 18th century and included rounded dishes, vases, tea pots, tea bowls, saucers, lidded jars and other useful ware
