Description: An antique gouache, 7 1/2" by 9 1/2" (11 1/2" by 13 1/2" in interesting old frame), the subject a classical old ruin of Italy sprouting greenery in its decayed state, as tiny figures survey the scene, signed at lower left "CALLARD". The work brings to mind art by Hubert Robert (18th century), Claude Lorrain, etc. The actual age of this piece, I do not know, nor can I locate information on an artist by this name. Could be anywhere from late 18th century to early 20th perhaps. There is a tear in upper left corner above the tree and a few water spots on the gouache at upper right, but none of that is obtrusive or even obviously noticeable, to the casual viewer---in some ways actually adds antiquity. A fine addition to your traditional interior.
