The set is usually published as "Groote Figuer-bijbel"or "Theatrum Biblicum". The Visscher family published these already antique plates from 1649 on. State: Second state of 2 Ref: Hollstein 454 Theatrum Biblicum Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Pieter de Jode I' after 'Maerten de Vos'. Petrus / Pieter de Jode I (1570-1634), was a Flemish Baroque painter and engraver. He learned drawing and engraving first from his father, the map maker Gerard de Jode, and later from Hendrik Goltzius. He was the teacher of his son Pieter de Jode II and others. Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) was an Antwerp painter and draughtsman of the late sixteenth century. His travels to Italy made him adopt the Mannerist style. His designs were very popular and were followed widely. Subject: Antique print, titled: 'O dolor hic summum deus o fert ecce laborem [..].' - Christ crucified.Condition: Very good, given age.
