Description: Antique silver plated brass vesta case box - a vesta case in the shape of a gentleman's bust of William Gladstone, opening at the base for the matches, with the striker ridges on the bottom. Gladstone was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for a total of twelve years and this box would most likely relate to celebrate his second term which was from 1880-1885. - unmarked - total weight 26grms - dimensions approx 56mm x 28mm x 17mm - c.1880 EnglandGood condition with age related wear - bottom hinge opens and closes well, slight gap in closed position. Some wear to the silver plating on the most prominent edges - tarnish and oxidisation present but could easily be cleaned and removed by the new owner if so desired.
