The later photos are of the back side of the board and are shown in the raw wood state.Flatness: We take great care to pick boards which are respectably flat given their length and width. If a board exhibits excessive twist, cup or bow we would not offer it for sale. That said, each board will have slight variations in flatness commensurate with the species and grain characteristics. Surface Finish: Our planers have helical carbide cutterheads and do a respectable job on mitigating tear-out on figured boards. A board may have some rough lumber patches present as we make a judgment call as to how much thickness to retain while smoothing the surface sufficiently. Our goal is always to leave as much thickness as possible to allow for final flattening and dimensioning.
