ARC Melody 2500 Under Dash Car 45 RPM Record Player Vintage

Description: ARC Melody 2500 record player. That needs repair . These were an aftermarket device designed to play 45rpm records in cars. They are similar in concept to the Highway Hi-Fi offered by Chrysler in the late-1950s, but the ARC had one crucial advantage over the Highway Hi-Fi. It could play regular records, whereas the ones for the Chrysler unit were specific to that brand. A couple of other manufacturers offered similar systems to the Melody 2500, including a Sears Allstate model. One of the most in demand 'hottest sellers' of its type. A vintage 45 r.p.m. record player that mounted under the dash. Used. Chrome. With faux wood panel faceplate. Has very few scuffs. Nice condition externally. They were primarily made by RCA under license also as 'ARC' and other brands sold new at 'Western Auto', 'Sears', 'Montgomery Ward' and very popular with Teenagers with a little dough in their pocket. They would play (8) 45 rpm records stacked. It was designed to amazingly ride bouncing along without missing a beat. They are VERY hard to find without rust bubbles (from sitting on the shelf in the garage) and NOT missing the needle, radio plug or internal parts. This one had a Full Chrome Cabinet with faux wood facia, which was unusual... most were stipple black paint w/ chrome front only. You can see this ARC player externally is in excellent condition. The inside has all the parts turns on and the indicator light goes on. This record player turns on and works but it does have some problems. You do need to tinker with it to get it going. These are some of the issues: The stylus arm that swings across to drop the needle sometimes freezes on the side before going across. I suspect it needs to be replaced. Also there are two light bulbs only one turns on despite changing the other bulb. Antenna connection needs repair. The records also wobble a little rather than spinning smoothly the spindle may need repair. Once it finishes playing the record it does drop the record and the arm does return. Includes needle, motor and radio plug. But they are worn and will need replacing. This radio is complete but will probably need repair and to replace parts. You will need to do some repairs to get this in proper working order.
