Description: This is an antique sugar bowl with lid that comes from Nippon. The back mark dates this piece from 1911-1921. The main color is cream with a one inch yellowish tan border and a half inch gold design border. There are four pink and green floral medallions on each sides. The handles of the bowl and the lid as well as the base of the bowl and the lid are heavily trimmed in gold. The measurements are about 6" in height including the top of the lid and 6" in diameter. It measures 9" wide including handles. Except for the gold that shows some wear on the handles and top of the lid this sugar bowl has been pretty well preserved for its age. There are no cracks, chips or crazing. When you see a "Nippon" mark on the underside of the base of a piece of ceramic, you know that you have a piece that was made in Japan. Simply, Nippon means Japan. If a piece is marked "Nippon," then it was made and imported between 1891 and 1921. If it is marked "Japan", then the piece was made and imported after 1921.
