If you want a new one, go for it! But if you want an old one, think about the difference between the old and the repros. The old swans were made differently, and usually show a final mold mark on the chest of the swan. The Politzers called it a goiter, and that's easy to notice and remember when buying. There is ALWAYS a mold mark in the front of the swan, if not then it's new trash! Rusty iron does NOT mean old, it is simply iron that has been mistreated with water! Also the old irons have a smoooooth feel to the iron. It will show when you look at it, but just feel the difference between old iron and the new. New iron (even with no rust) is very rough, more like concrete. The old quality is smooth, more like glass. This little swan iron is old, and is with the trivet! This is how I found it in the early 1970's and how it will sell. The trivet may have been added before I purchased it, but it fits, and they will stay together. This little iron is shown in Politzer's book #1 "TUESDAYS CHILDREN", Fig.26C. The Politzers wrote 2 great books on mini irons. Not price guides, but informational books for us collectors. This iron is 1 7/8" long, 1" hi, and 1 1/4" wide at the widest on the base. There are 4 great photos to show it well, but if you have questions, email me.
