Description: This large piece of banded iron has a nice pattern of stripes. It weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces and measures approximately 6" X 4.5" X 2.5" It is naturally polished by wind and water. It exhibits some excellent examples of where the rock has broken sometime in the remote past, and then fused together, often with the stripes mis-aligned. (see close-up pictures) It has a weak attraction for magnets. It was found in central Wyoming. Banded Iron is at least 1.8 billion years old and formed of iron, hematite, magnetite with chert, jasper or quartz. It is also known as Seer Stone, Tiger Iron, and Genesis Stone.Banded Iron is thought to have metaphysical properties including opening closed chakras, grounding, channeling energy, repelling negative energy, and healing.
