Description: Formed in 1857 as the 19th Bengal Native Infantry in the East India Company's Army, it became the 2nd Goorkha Regiment in 1861 and formed part of independent India's army in 1947. During WW2 its battalions served in the North Africa, Italy, and Burma campaigns including with the Chindits. Designated the 4th Prince of Wales' Own Gurkha Rifles in 1924, its badge bears the Prince's plumed crest.
