CERCIS canadensis v. MEXICANA, MEXICAN REDBUD, EZ BEAUTIFUL SPRING COLOR, 30 SDS

Description: 30 FRESH SEEDS HARVESTED FOR THIS SEASON All of our seeds ship with tracking. There are three varieties of rebud native to Texas. The Mexican Redbud is possibly the prettiest, it is most certainly the most drought tolerant of the three….sailing through consecutive drought summers here at home of 100+ days of 100+temps and no rain--without damage. THIS TREE PICTURED WAS A 4” SEEDLING that had volunteered itself in a pot of daylilies 9 years before. It has been pruned back to keep it out of the street and off the fire hydrant for the last 5 years. The Mexican Redbud is the daintier littlest sister of the Texas redbuds. It ranges throughout central Texas, growing wild to west of the Pecos River and south into Nuevo Leon in northeast Mexico. It loves hilly to mountainous areas, doing well in very poor, alkaline soils—but it thrives in a wide variety of soils, and is a great choice for small spaces, urban gardens, bonsais. HARDINESS ZONES—5 THRU 9MATURE HEIGHT—12 TO 20 FT.DIFFICULTY—VERY EASY ONCE ESTABLISHED…germination times can be variable, expect about 50% Mexican Redbud grows as a gracfully arching multi-trunked tree, bursting into vibrant rosey purplish pink color early in the spring before leaves emerge. Great as an accent tree, or kept pruned as a large shrub….It does very well in full sun, but makes a fabulous understory tree, tolerating a good deal of shade. I’ve seen them twine themselves beautifully through large oaks. Distinctive features that set it apart from the other girls, are its beautiful, shiny, green, green leaves that are very distinctly ruffled around the edges. The blossoms are followed by showy coppery/burgundy/rust colored seed pods that hang on throughout the summer. Autumn foliage is also exceptional in the Mexican Redbud, glistening gold, reminiscent of quaking aspen. THESE SEEDS ARE FRESH, HOMEGROWN, HANDPICKED AND CLEANED, AND WERE COLLECTED FOR THIS PLANTING SEASON I CAN MAKE BULK QUANTITIES AVAILABLE IN SOME OF THE SEEDS I OFFER, AND WELCOME INQUIRIES! SHIPPING W/TRACKING (USPS Retail Ground) OR PRIORITY SHIPPING AVAILABLE ON REQUEST AT CHECKOUT ****I am happy to respond to inquiries and give the best information I have. ABOUT OUR SEEDS (A SORT OF DISCLAIMER): ***We grow, harvest, clean and store our seeds, ourselves.*** **Some plants are restricted by various states. We will notify you if we are aware of any restriction, but we mostly know about restrictions here in Texas. ULTIMATELY IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER to verify if your purchase is restricted by your state, county or city government. **INTERNATIONAL BUYERS......While we are happy to ship seeds internationally, WE DO NOT OFFER PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATES. Again, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER to verify whether or not seeds might be banned from import into that country and might be seized at customs. **MANY of the seeds we offer are NOT annuals with quick starts and short lifespans. Most are particularly suited to withstand the the extreme heat of central Texas summers. Some will take things entirely at their own pace and require a really warm soil and/or other special treatment for "quicker" germination...and germination MAY require weeks, months and longer. **There are all manner of predators and conditions which can affect, hamper or even destroy germination....like molds, soil fungi, bugs, birds, squirrels, armadillos, pets and other varmints, soil and air temps (day AND night), water, light, care or lack thereof, contamination of planting media, and the list goes on. **Germination tips are sent with each variety of seeds. The general method that works well for us in our location, particularly. **BUYERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH for their particular areas. The internet abounds in information. Grower forums, county extension agents, and local nurseries can also be quite valuable sources. ** "FLOATING SEEDS" is not necessarily an indication of seeds with no viability. In some species, floating is the indicator that the seed IS viable....and in some species (like citrus) both sinkers and floaters will germinate, depending on the maturity and freshness of the seed. **** THANKS! **** _gsrx_vers_811 (GS 7.0.9 (811))SaveSaveSaveSave
