The choice is only based upon your personal visual preferences. The dimmer function becomes a necessity when you're running a lamp of this quality and size. Once the lamp reaches its maximum temperature then you can slowly dial back the brightness of the lamp to achieve the exact flow rate you desire. These lamps are sealed with a professional grade compress fitting, clean out plug, and will not leak during transportation.
