Author Biography Dame Emilie Rose Macaulay, DBE was an English author who was born on August 1, 1881, and died on October 30, 1958. She was best known for her award-winning book The Towers of Trebizond, which is about a small group of Anglo-Catholics who cross Turkey by camel. People see the story as a spiritual autobiography because it shows how her views changed and sometimes clashed. Virginia Woolf had an effect on some of Macaulays stories. She also wrote biographies, travel books, and poetry. Macaulay was born in Rugby, Warwickshire.
