Description: From a Tucson estate some years ago is this mid century or so Norwegian guilloche enamel sterling silver gilt butterfly pin, an iconic mid century example from the workshop of David-Andersen. The David-Anderson concern was perhaps the most respected goldsmith atelier in Norway during those times, and this ornament showcases the reason why. The silver work and enameling are top tier - most of these were done up in single color enamel, so the unarguably attractive multi color effort here is a nice bonus. There is of course the requisite "DAVID ANDERSEN / NORWAY STERLING 925S", a well referenced marking used by the atelier. These pins have always been en vogue - wearable art for now and forever. Weight is good for the form at about 4 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with an aura of time to the silver gilt surfaces. Be aware I have avoided every urge to refresh or "improve" upon any natural toning - you want that done, you do it. The enamel is well preserved, all intact with no chips or cracks or any hidden restorations. The pin and locking clasp work exactly as they should. Assuming this did occasional blouse duty during the Eisenhower or Kennedy administrations, it must have been a very infrequent occurrence. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 1 7/32 in. (think 1 1/4 in.) horizontal and 13/16 in. vertical - diminutive, and yet it will still be noticed.. If your personal aesthetic runs to 1960's Scandinavian design, or you simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you. inkfrog terapeak Listing and template services provided by inkFrog
