(See picture)I strive to produce the best DVD's possible from the sometimes VERY old Public Domain material. Films that are public domain are un-preserved and not professionally remastered. I remaster all of my films myself to the best possible quality achievable. Please note this when purchasing, but also know that all of the films are very watchable. All of my DVD's come with a menu for easy film selection. Total runtime of this DVD is 88 minutes. Film 1: "Narcotics: Pit of Despair" (1967) COLOR Runtime 28 minutes Dark vision of drug use and its effect on American youth. What a gem! Everything you want from an anti-drug film! A Square is seduced into a world of drugs by sinister pushers eager to lead him by the nose from "bennies" to pot to heroin. Instead of any dialog, a narrator reads a non-stop stream of hilariously dated jargon. One of the definitive drug films of the sixties, Pit of Despair was well known to high school A-V squads. By now, we've seen and heard most of the anti-drug cliché, but it's still a surprise to find so many encapsulated into a single film. Film 2: "Drug Abuse: The Chemical Tomb" (1969) COLOR Runtime 18 minutes Interesting anti-drug film criticizing drug use as an inhibitor of necessary social change. An ode to the evil of drugs starts out great, with a party going on, groovy music playing, people in great fashions dancing around, and, uh, a kid with a aerosol spray can... Soon, a interesting lecture starts about the different kind of drugs and the side effects. The consequences of drug dealing are also explored. Nice acting, great sets and wild music add up to a cool film. Film 3: "Drug Addiction" (1951) COLOR Runtime 21 minutes After a interesting animated show of what drugs are, and what they do to you, we turn to Marty as he gets busted for stealing, as he is sentenced to court, we find out the whole sordid details about how he got there. The story is told, highly entertaining, filled with sleazy underworld types, gloomy friends, and overprotective mothers. Soon Marty is hooked (and eating pop bottles! He then goes into petty theft to support his habit, and we come full circle returning to the court to hear his momma say 'He's a good boy!" in his defense.. Film 4: "Subject: Narcotics" (1951) COLOR Runtime 21 minutes Produced for police orientation and training, this film presents drug addiction not simply as a crime but as a deep seated social problem. With dramatized sequences of addicts in shooting galleries and excellent footage of pre-renewal downtown Los Angeles, a neighborhood now lost. Very weird piece about addiction. I think much of this holds up today. Listen to the 2 toned narration. You had the serious narrator type, then off and on, this whiny one comes on to ask a stupid question. Very odd, and quite funny. I claim ownership and rights to this media. All the films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
