Description: Pair of extremely high quality busts, hand carved from solid woodVery good condition, deep dark wood Beautiful detailed carving, the earrings are free swinging. The pair weighs about 14 pounds! A very excellent matched pair - so many similarities, yet differences in their features. The size of the man is slightly larger at approximately 13 1/4"x 10" x 7"the woman is approximatelyl 12 3/4" x 8 3/4" X 7". I believe the wood is the very expensive African Blackwood (Wood of the Mpingo Tree), often used for fine woodwind instruments. On the back there is some minor fill, this appears to likely be a defect in the original wood, or perhaps some later shrinkage. Dated on the bottom (see photo) 1-15-55 - on the female bust reads "AYDINAN (carver)" There is also a stamp that is not fully discernable, but I believe reads as "Chartelon, 6 Sione Market, Baguta (which is in Zimbabwe, Africa) Don't know much of the background, but before coming to Minnesota in 2015, they were in Kentucky. Please review the pictures they are part of the description. We do our best to describe our items as accurately as possible, and photograph in natural light. These were a little difficult to show the true beauty on camera due to the rich dark stain of the wood. Please ask if you have any questions.
