Description: [Fine Bindings] Bartlett, W. H.,Willis, N.P., Coyne, J. Stirling. THE SCENERY AND ANTIQUITIES OF IRELAND. London: George Virtue, [1842]. 1st Ed. , Two volumes, beautifully rebound full Moroccan leather w/ornate gilt titling and architecture, five raised bands, 4to (11x8.250”), very good / n.a., 2vols. v.1 (iv, [2], 170; vol.2[4] 186 pp.); 122 plates. Bindings are spectacularly clean, joints and hinges tight and strong, significant foxing in all end-papers as is common to this work, light to moderate foxing sporadically throughout, some light foxing within the plates, two previous owner signatures on front free fly-leaf. What can one say - it’s Bartlett’s Ireland. Gorgeous, shelf popping bindings and absolutely stunning and haunting plates from a world of long ago. In 1842 the first adhesive postage stamps were produced in the United States, the London News began publication in England, the Ulster Canal was completed and The Nation began publication in Dublin. A very distinctive set of books – quite the sector of Captured Tyme!
