Description: 1860s CDV of 5 Philadelphia notables, who are listed below. I have not been able to definitively pin down why they were all together for this sitting but I may have found a connection to a fair for the soldiers & sailors (see first 2 attached articles from the May 31, 1865 Philadelphia Inquirer and the August 23, 1865 Philadelphia Inquirer where all 5 names are listed at the bottom). They may also have all been members of the Union League in Philadelphia (see 3rd attached article from the June 3, 1863 Philadelphia Inquirer where 4 of the 5 names are listed at the bottom). The CDV came from a presentation album given to Samuel Batchelder (inventor & author) by Samuel's family and friends for his 80th birthday on June 8, 1864. Photographer is F.
