Description: France 1890: The River and the Moon, Lovely Symbolist Watercolor, Listed Artist From a recent art auction in Paris comes this touching and evocative watercolor, in a style near to that of the Symbolists, by listed French artist Paul Givry, active late 19th -- early 20th centuries. From what I see of other Givry works I have found on the web, this artist had a genuine, personal manner, and a gift for creating a mood with nature-derived form and color. A Givry watercolor, slightly larger than this one, sold for about $377, plus buyer's premium, at a 2017 auction in France. Dimensions of this work are about 11.5 inches by 8.25 inches. There is a small damaged area, lower right; nonetheless the artist's signature remains clear. Condition is otherwise quite good. Modestly priced for something over a century old, with real poetry. Shipping will be $10 within the U.S. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
