Description: FRANK TEA & SPICE CO. Ohio 1890s Antique Mercantile General Store Chest RARE. Wonderful antique mercantile five drawer spice cabinet from The Frank Tea & Spice Company. In 1896, Jacob Frank ended his career as a traveling salesman and founded the Frank Tea and Spice Co. along with his brothers Emil and Charles. Located on East Second Street in Cincinnati, Ohio, the company introduced small, shelf-size packages of whole and ground spices for customers, replacing bulk merchandise. As their market expanded, so too did their offerings; ranging from teas and spices to peanut butter and olives. One of their most famous inventions was Frank's® RedHot®, a cayenne pepper sauce that was the secret ingredient for the first ever Buffalo Wings, made in Buffalo, New York in 1964. The cabinet is made of oak, has paneled sides and back, and drawers with recessed carved handles. The dovetailed drawers are 3.75" deep and all function well. The cabinet shows well from any angle because the sides and back of the cabinet are paneled, . Cabinet measures 25-1/4"W x 19.5"D x 25"T. In very good condition with minor marks and rubs to the finish. The cabinet was refinished long ago so the drawers are no longer stenciled, however; it will be very simple to have stencils printed to replace the old. In the last photo, we have provided a photo of a Frank's Tea & Spice Co. cabinet with replaced decals which sold at auction in 2013. This will let you see how the cabinet will look with decal lettering should you choose to add it. These cabinets are as rare as hen's teeth so you don't want to miss your chance to own this beauty.
