Description: Presented is a fabulous pair of antique Austrian Amphora vases, dating to around the 1890s. The vases are mottled with rosy blush and gilt detailing, and feature a beautiful hand done design of yellow roses with green leaves and thorny brown stems. The decoration is quite detailed and well done, some over the glaze and some under, requiring many individual steps in the decorating process. The colors are beautiful and complement each other and the dappled glaze in a very appealing way, and the thick black outlines give the roses a storybook illustration feel. The vases are done in a classical four handled style, with low rounded bodies, tall tapered necks and flared mouths. One of the pair is in excellent condition, while the other has a hairline visible to the interior, not something that can be noticed without close careful inspection. There is some cracklature to the glaze of both, which is deliberate and an intentional part of the design, not damage or wear. There are no chips, no other cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside of each vase is signed Amphora Austria beneath a crown, with the numbers 3888, one vase is numbered 44 and one is numbered 43. Each vase stands about 7 inches tall and measures about 5 inches in diameter. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
