HEN AND CHICKS Russian GZHEL FACTORY 1850-1890 BUTTER DISH Antique Rare This antique porcelain butter dish made in an Gzhel factory in the second half of the 19th century is very rare, a similar butter dish exists in the State Historical Museum in Moscow. We learned that Gzhel factories did indeed paint colorfully, diverging from the popular blue and white coloring. The overglaze painting is vibrant and delightful and the chicks under the wings of the mother hen are sweet. In great condition, there is some wear on the overglaze painting, two cracks on bottom of lid, a crack on one wing, a chip on rim of bottom half, firing cracks on bottom feet, please see all photos 5.75" H, 6" L, 4.5" W Wonderful piece!
