Description: Japanese Kuro Raku Chawan.This bowl is japanese handmade black (kuro) raku. Kuro Raku Chawan is unique as it is crafted without a potter's wheel and instead uses a hand-forming technique called Tezukune. After it is shaped, an iron-rich glaze is applied to the bowl by hand. Finally, the Raku bowl is fired in a kiln using a traditional technique called Hikidashi. This method allows the bowl to be fired at a high temperature and then cooled rapidly to result in its beautiful black finish. Size: Approx.
