Description: This is a great little pot created by Mary Small (1940 - 2024) of Jemez Pueblo. Measures approx. 3 5/8" tall x 3" wide. This particular form is known as a friendship pot or bowl. I can't find another example made by Mary. Mary Small was known as "Kal-la-Te" in Towa, the Jemez language. She was a very talented potter and achieved a unique look to her pottery by using a gray slip in her polychrome creations. This gives her pottery a distinctive look and makes it easily recognizable. Mary started participating in various art shows around 1973. She won numerous awards over the years including First Prize at Santa Fe Indian Market in 1981. Condition is good with some small hairline cracks where the figures are attached. They appear to have occurred during firing (see photos). These do not detract from the beauty of this piece.
