Additional docketing and endorsements. KING GEORGE III (1738-1820), the last King to rule the American Colonies, was plagued by continual outbreaks of war during his 60-year reign (1760-1820). He had inherited the throne during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), when England forced the French out of North America. A decade later, Great Britain lost its American colonies after being defeated in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Internal unrest developed in 1799, when insurrectionists began fighting for an independent Ireland; their rebellion resulted in the dissolution of the Irish parliament. During the final years of his reign, George III guided England through the Napoleonic Wars (1800-1815), during which the British triumphed over France and proved their naval superiority at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805). Unfortunately, the king was ruled insane before peace was restored. In 1811, his son, Prince George (George IV), was appointed Regent. Sir GEORGE YONGE, Fifth Baronet (1731-1812) was Britain's Secretary of War from 1782-1794. He served many years in Parliament (1754-1796), and also as Governor of the Cape Colony (1799-1801). George Gore (1725-1802), the 1st Earl of Ross, was not literally a cousin of the King. He was a veteran British army officer who had distinguished himself as a young officer in the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748) and the Seven Years War (1756-1763). He obtained colonelship of the 32nd (Cornwall) Regiment in 1781, and was promoted to Lieutenant General in 1782. He would rise to full general's rank in 1796. Multiple folds. Toned.
