Tom Shannon worked at Disney for over 20 years as a layout artist in story development, He was a visual development artist on this film and responsible for designing the architectural elements for both the exterior and interior of the orphanage and the school gym where the science fair was held. The room and its contents in this drawing are very similar to those used in the movie. Tom Shannon's job was normally to develop story details including the design of details in characters and architectural backgrounds before the final script was approved and animation began. He worked on many Disney films including Aladdin, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Lion King, and Mulan.
