Description: the silver colored bullion style hat badge is nice AND ORIGINAL, it has two little metal connectors on the back of the badge that extend into elastic band to hold in place, as it should - being original issue that way. for display, should you desire, the badge is easily removable from the elastic band that went around the entire cap. just tug the badge and it will come off the removable badge alone is worth more than the asking price. the badge is easily removable for display Mohawk was bought by Dupont family affiliated allegheny airlines in 1972 who also merged with lake central, piedmont and america west before becoming u s air and finally merging with American Airlines. what a great lineage. Badge was used in the mid 1950's. According to expert sources, each badge is partially made of real silver wire and bullion embroidered onto felt onto a leather backing. These badges were made by hand. each one is unique with slight variations. scarce early issue. i'm guessing from the 1950's as it is sewn onto a leather backing as opposed to a wool felt backing like the later badges. cap is worn with usual useage wear, no name or hat size noted, i am pricing the auction for the badge, the hat comes with it at no extra charge to the winning bidder. i do not know the pilots name, the plastic part that held the card identifying the pilot is in less than great shape and the inner lining of the cap is worn but reasonably solid, but it was worn a lot as evidenced by wear. Mohawk Airlines Pilot Hat Badge 2nd Issue The airline began operations in 1945 as Robinson Airlines. In 1952 the name was changed to Mohawk Airlines Allegheny Airlines, merger was completed in 1972. The resulting company eventually became USAir in 1979 and eventually american airlines.
