Description: Antique folk art, primitive Temperance painting. Signed and dated on the back side in pencil, faded. Charlie M Rogers Paris Tex, of or at Hot springs Ark 1907. Painted with a naive hand. Exceptional subject matter. Drunken man dancing the jig to the tunes of the fiddle player on horseback. Mom and the children looking on with distraught, worried expressions. Whiskey sign hangs above the entrance to the run down cabin. Cur dog in the foreground appears to be growling. The evil serpent slithering up the leafless tree. The message is abundantly clear. The evils of alcohol. The funky homemade stretcher is as wonderful as the painting. Held together with bits of wire. The frame itself is tight. There is a small hole in the canvas, has a circle around it. There is some missing paint. Some loss near the bottom. The most noticeable is at the top of the tree. Could be restored. I like it the way it sits . Sight 23 1/2 by 17 3/4 inches. Frame 27 3/4 by 20 3/4. Stretchers need to be nailed to the frame more securely. Please email with any questions. Thank you Priority mail will be $ 35.00. If it turns out that it cost less, I will refund the difference. If it's more, I'll pay the difference.
