His early work was influenced by Francis Wheatley but after the 1790's he came into his own style. His best compositions focus on rustic scenes: farms and hunting; smugglers and gypsies; and rich, textured landscapes informed by Dutch Golden Age painting. A celebrated artist, he has influenced many painters throughout the ages. We feel this painting is much later, though in his style. Age- c1970 Size- 14.5 by 17.5 inches approx including frame Medium- Oil on canvas laid to panel Frame- Later wooden frame, some knocks, offered free with the painting. Condition- We would be very happy to hang this one as found. There is however some varnish browning and a scuff mark lower right. Some varnish bloom.
