Description: Offering a pair of large and visually arresting wall sconces. Their design elements certainly suggest the 1890-1910 period, with the Nouveau-styled ribbon at the top and the ornate embellishments at every turn. And let’s not forget about that mythical face grinning at us from the center. The marquetry panels, with their old-European male and female figures, are additions and probably a lot older than the sconces themselves. I purchased these sconces in Belgium. They appear to be made of silver-plated brass; the craftsmanship is superior. The electric candle sockets are European, and take an E-114 bulb (they all work fine). You can order online a step-down device ("reducer") which will allow the use of American candelabra bulbs. One candle cover is missing (two are shown in the photos; there is a matching third cover which will be included). The wiring is intact and functions perfectly. I don’t know how old these sconces are, but I’m guessing they’re at least 50 years old. Highly decorative, they have significant “wall power.” Measurements: 20 inches high, 11 ¾ wide. They project about 5 ¼ inches from the wall. The marquetry figures measures about 4 high, 3 wide.
