Description: Welcome to our eBay picks atLONG LOST Co This is a FIXED PRICE • BUY-IT-NOW sale I was lucky enough to pick this rare, ANTIQUE 5-SIDED BUTTER MOLD! It has four trapezoidal sides, attached to a central square with wire hinges. When, assembled it forms a short, rectangular block with sloping sides. When open, it appears like a MALTESE CROSS. There are carved designs on all sides, as well as the center (top). There are Two Flowers, a House or Cabin, a Goat or Deer and the center has an Eight-Sided Star Pattern. I think these had a cane strap, stave, wire or some other method of holding it tightly together when used. It may also have had a bottom or a piece to press the butter in(?). Not really sure about that part as I actually have little knowledge of such things. I do know though that this type of mold is very uncommon and prized by collectors. The condition is VERY GOOD and seems to be QUITE FUNCTIONAL, though I’m sure the wood has shrunken somewhat over the years. There is a CHIP in the roofline of the house/cabin and I scraped out a hardened spot of old white paint from the same area (no, I did NOT cause the chip!). There may be a few other tiny paint dots as well. Otherwise, those are really the only significant flaws I observed. You can view and judge the cosmetic condition for yourselves. Measurements (assembled) are about 2 3/4”W x 2 3/4”D x 3” H. This mold will be shipped assembled with a rubber band around it as shown in the auction pictures.
