Description: This small vase from Japan (Nippon) features a Moriage flying dragon design with blue eyes on a smoky gray background. The hand-painted details on the vase make it a unique piece of pottery, crafted with the traditional Moriage technique*. The Morimura Bros mark indicates it is early 20th century, prior to 1922. Approximate dimensions 4 3/4" tall, 2 3/4 wide, mouth 1 1/2" wide. * Moriage is also a common name on slip or colored clay string decoration, mostly on Japanese porcelain, in look not unlike 'cake frosting' in which a diluted clay has been used to give the piece a three dimensional appearance. Produced in Japan from the end of the 1800s until the mid 1900s reflecting the western interest in the exotic of the late 19th century period. Item has minor damage as shown in photos
