Recorded during the 1959 European tour featuring bassist Henry Grimes, drummers Pete La Roca, Joe Harris*, Kenny Clarke**!! The familiar tunes are featured, with the opening track "St. Thomas" showcasing a powerful performance at the Stockholm club "Nalen". The following 6 tracks were performed for radio broadcasts, with Rollins' own commentary recorded at the beginning of each track. Additionally, lengthy performances from the happiest days of the tour in France are included in the latter part of the album. The second LP begins with a short interview from the Stockholm TV station. The accompanying booklet includes precious photos by Ed van der Elsken, Jean-Pierre Leloir, Bob Parent, and others. It also features detailed commentary by jazz critic and writer Bob Blumenthal, as well as a valuable interview with Sonny Rollins himself reminiscing about the 1959 European tour. Rollins also discusses his feelings about temporarily retiring after this tour. Furthermore, interviews with Branford Marsalis, James Carter, Joe Lovano, James Brandon Lewis, Peter Brötzmann, and others discuss Rollins' greatness as a player. Mastering by legendary engineer Bernie Grundman has significantly improved the sound quality from previous bootlegs. The English booklet has been fully translated, and a highly valuable Japanese booklet (16 pages in total) is included for reading pleasure. The LP is a complete limited edition available only on the first pressing, sure to become a collector's item. The complete translation of the original English liner notes is provided by Fumimaru Kawashima, renowned for translating books on Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and others.
