Description: This original George C. Shreve Sterling Silver Bowl is from the 19th Century. The mark on the bottom is a very early one. The bowl is stunning in every way. The size, the form, the hand worked repousse floral and fern pattern, the depth of the design, along with an exquisite personalized monogram with the letters TAC, subtley engraved at the very top of the bowl in one area. The bowl weighs between 14 and 15 ounces. It measures 10 inches across and just under 4.5 inches tall. It makes a lovely centerpiece, We have always had it exhibited with a pair of early Shreve Candlesticks on a 19th C. farm table. George C. Shreve pf San Francisco is considered among the very finest silver companies in America. The early work, like this bowl, are to be found in the finest households and museums in the country. It is simply a beautiful object executed at a time when labor intensive work such as this was still possible. This fine and intricate hand craftsmanship was particular to its time.
