Item Summary: The Ebonys were formed in 1969 and hailed from Camden, New Jersey. Discovered by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, they recorded extensively for Philadelphia International, although only releasing one album. Their biggest Philadelphia Internaional hits were "You're The Reason Why" (#10 R&B) and "It's Forever", which made #14 R&B. Their sound was somewhat Dells-based with baritone lead with answering second falsetto lead. A new female vocalist in Suzette Dorsey was added for their Buddah debut "Sing About Life". Although this Tony Camillo produced album did not enjoy commercial success, it is full of the classic heavy soul wailing that was the group's signature sound. Standout cuts in this vein include "If You're In Need", "Mr. Me, Mrs. You" along with a cool and torchy version of the Average White Band's "A Love Of Your Own". On the dance side, "Neighborhood Gossip" made some noise, but failed to chart. "Sing About Life" makes its worldwide CD debut on P&C and is remastered from the original first generation analog tapes.
