The story focuses on a top-secret project where selected figures from the past have been 'rescued' from death in their own time periods and transported to the future. In this future, each of the 'expats' from history is assigned a 'bridge', a civil servant to help them acclimate to their new existence. One of these visitors is Commander Gore, an explorer who - per history books - died on a failed Arctic expedition in the Victorian era. He is assigned a female 'bridge' and begins the process of adjusting to the modern age. But nothing (including time travel) is simple, and the project soon proves to be more dangerous than was planned for all involved! A nice price for an entertaining new book. If you're a fan of the Outlander series, or Doctor Who, you will enjoy this novel.
