Today Gourmet Foods -- Snow Crab Clusters 5oz/8oz Clusters

Description: About This ItemSnow crab are distantly related to King Crab and are another variety of giant crab found in the icy waters of both the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans. Snow Crab boasts a sweet, delicate crab flavor, with meat ranging from reddish tint to pure snow white. Snow crab legs are fully cooked prior to freezing. Our snow crab legs are generally sourced from the icy waters surrounding Greenland.Snow crab leg clusters are removed from the body of the crab, cleaned and cooked in boiling salt water (this gives the leg shells their red color). The cooked crabs are then ice glazed and flash frozen to protect the quality of the leg meat.A ‘cluster’ of snow crab legs is usually 4 legs (3-4) and an ‘average’ weight is 8 to 10 ounces per cluster (these are slightly smaller than average). Snow crab leg clusters yield about 50% of the total weight in meat. To feed two people 6 ounces of crab meat each you would need a total of about 24 ounces of snow crab legs or slightly less than 2 pounds of snow crab leg clusters (about 4-5 clusters each). [Ounces of Meat to Eat per Person x 2 = Ounces of Snow Crab Leg Clusters to Purchase per Person]. Snow crab leg clusters are generally available in 5-8oz, 8-10oz, and 10-12oz (or 10 oz and up) clusters. To thaw, for best results remove from all packaging and refrigerate 8-10 hours or overnight. The saltwater glaze will melt so put in a container or wrap in a kitchen towel.Today Gourmet ships all products in insulated boxes with either dry ice or frozen gel packs, guaranteed to arrive frozen at your doorstep. We are a small, family-owned business and source the best products we can find, frequently from family-owned businesses across the United States (or in this case, seafood cooperatives in Greenland).“A meal is the whole experience of getting together and sharing with friends. Nearly all crab legs sold are only available frozen.Since crab meat starts to spoil as soon as the crab dies, crab legs are rarely sold raw. Fishing crews catch the crab and keep them alive in specially designed wells from harvest all the way to the shore. Immediately upon arrival on shore, legs are separated from the body, cleaned and cooked in boiling salt water (this gives the leg shells their color).Cooked crabs are then rinsed in cold water to stop the cooking process, dipped in saltwater to prevent freezer burn and then flash frozen at extremely low temperatures. Flash freezing maintains freshness, preserves nutrients and protect the product from external impurities..We source from reputable suppliers and our quality crab legs were frozen within a few hours of arriving on shore and remain frozen all the way to your door.PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONSKeep frozen at 0° F or below until ready to use. For best results, thaw before cooking by removing all packaging and refrigerate below 38° F for 8–10 hours or overnight.BROIL: Place Alaskan Snow Crab on a broiler rack 5 inches from heat for 5 minutes until heated.STEAM: Fill a large pot with 3/4 inch of water. Place a steam basket in the pot and bring the water to a boil. Place the Alaskan Snow Crab in the basket; reduce heat, cover, and steam for about 5 minutes until the crab is heated through.SAUTÉ: Start with serving-sized pieces of Alaskan Snow Crab in the shell or out. Melt butter, margarine, or oil in a pan. Stir in Alaskan Snow Crab and sauté lightly for 3–5 minutes, until heated through. When sautéing with other ingredients, add crab during the last 5 minutes of cooking.GRILL: Place Alaskan Snow Crab (legs and/or clusters) on well-oiled grill a few inches above hot coals for 5 minutes, until heated through.
