This is a full view of the INTERIOR looking EAST. This 138+-year-old photogravure is in GOOD condition. The print has aged to a warm buff color. The edges are crisp, there is minor foxing, and a small chip in the upper center margin that would easily be covered when matted and framed. The image is very strong and beautiful. The overall size is approximately 11” x 15 1/4" (27.94 cm x 38.735 cm). The actual image size is approximately 8" x 11.75” (20.32 cm x 29.85 cm) excluding the title block, which is located center bottom. On the left is printed; “Photogravure, International Art Publishing Co.,” and on the right; Haskell & Post, Publishers, Boston. The plate imprint is clearly visible on the page. Included is the original tissue covering which is in fair condition and has some creases and chips etc. Photogravure registers a wide variety of tones, through the transfer of etching ink from an etched copper plate to special dampened paper run through an etching press. Thus the amazing clarity and quality of the prints. A process still used today. This wonderful item would be a welcome addition to any collection, or would make a unique gift!
