Description: This is an Estate Fresh vintage Navajo Pottery Pot from a local Estate home. Its a CLASSIC VERY OLD NAVAJO 5" PINE PITCH SQUAT WEDDING VASE w CORN MOTIEF & FIRE CLOUDS signed "HB" - Its So SWEET!. It comes in Super nice condition as described above. This Traditional piece of Navajo (Diné) Pottery was hand coiled and fired outdoors in a firepit. The smoke and flames in the outdoor firing process create the unique smoky color variations, and the Fire Clouds or Rain Clouds represented in the Black, seen on this pot. After firing, the pot’s surface was covered with pinon pine pitch giving the pot a deeper color. The pine pitch treatment was the Navajo’s ancient practice of waterproofing pots. There is an incised decorative Open Ear of Corn design on both sides, and it is Incised "HB" on the bottom, undoubtedly its maker. This pot has a classic Navajo form with a rounded shoulder and turned-out rim. It’s truly a beautiful example.
