This seal plate has been machined and fitted with a PRE viton O-ring. You no longer need to clean RTV silicone when servicing IHI turbos. This makes turbo disassembly fast, easy, and you don't risk damaging compressor wheel blades in the process. Compressor housing seal plates usually have to be replaced when damaged turbos suffer from excessive shaft play. This machining service now comes standard on all IHI turbocharger rebuild we perform. This sealing method has been tested up to 28psi without any signs of leaking or failure.
